Being a multi-site project helps to be able to generalise our findings across or within Southern Africa, by helping to verify the research findings across various contexts and cultures, and describe the differences for a more nuanced picture and complete understanding.
Phase 1 anthropological research in 2003/4 had 11 sites in 3 countries:
- Namibia: Windhoek and Oshakati
- Swaziland: Mbabane
- South Africa: Watersmeet and Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal; Ravensmead, Nyanga and Hanoverpark in Western Cape; Idutywa and Motherwell in Eastern Cape; Soweto in Gauteng
Phase 2 action research (pilot) in 2005/6 has 4 sites in the same 3 countries:
